You will certainly agree that using cellular data while travelling abroad in roaming can be a real nightmare for your money. Although we use cellular data only when we really need it while in abroad, but the roaming charges are too big for the average person. Seeing this problem, an Italian company Zeromobile has taken initiative.
What is WhatSim?
WhatSim as its name suggest is a SIM card provided by Zeromobile Company. It is available to buy at the price of euro10(714RS approximately in INR) plus standard worldwide shipping charges euro5 (350 RS approximately in INR). You guys might be thinking that if it is only a SIM card, then what’s the matter of talking it as there are plenty of SIM company are there. If you are from India then you can get the service of jio sim free home delivery from Reliance.
Well in this case I want to tell you this is not the end of story. This is not just an ordinary SIM. It gives you the facility to use Whatsapp free for 1 year. It supports many country( exact details are not provided by the company). The company is planning to extends its uses in more than 100 countries worldwide. It comes in all three size presently exist in mobile device i.e. standard, micro and nano SIM sizes. The company has also promised to pay you back euro1 which you can give to whatsapp for using their service from second year onward.
Manuel Zanella Rngineer, Founder and CEO of Zeromobile, the company behind WhatSim, says “WhatsApp is the future of mobile communications. Its only “limit” is the data connection especially when you are travelling because the roaming charges are expensive and you cant always find Wi-fi everywhere and it is not always free. As someone who appreciates and uses WhatsApp, I tried to fugure out how to get around this problem. That’s why WhatSim is an extraordinary opportunity for WhatsApp.”

So there is huge dilemma in this. As Zeromobile company has not clearly stated the price scheme for multimedia messaging.
So, whatSim is a good initiative but certainly it is not the best one as users has expected.
What should be our step?
In most of the country when you travel you will find a local sim at a cheaper price than the WhatSim. Although traveling abroad while in roaming might be painful, but the fact is that how often you travel abroad in a year? Although at initially whatsapp looks to be on cheaper side but when you see in deep, you will soon find that it is only one side of the story. The total cost of whatSim and credit you buy for whatsim is certainly going to bigger then buying a local sim for the same purpose.
So my suggestion is don’t go for it until you travel a lot of countries and preferred to send the text messages over the multimedia messages.
What you think about WhatSim Guys, let me know. I would love to here those.
